The Story of Building the Egyptian Pyramids and Temples The ancient Egyptians were among the most skilled builders in history. They built incredible structures that still amaze the world today—especially the pyramids and temples. The Pyramids The pyramids were built as tombs for the pharaohs (kings) of Egypt. The most famous one is the Great Pyramid of Giza, built for Pharaoh Khufu around 2600 BC. It took thousands of workers, many years, and great effort to build. The workers used large limestone blocks, some weighing over two tons. They didn’t have modern machines, so they used simple tools, ramps, and teamwork to move and place the stones perfectly. The pyramids were designed to protect the body of the king and his treasures for the afterlife. Inside, there are tunnels and chambers, including the burial chamber where the pharaoh was placed. The Temples Temples were built to honor the gods and goddesses of ancient Egypt. They were places for worship and religious ceremonies. S
