"Chilling Encounter: The Night I Heard My Brother's Voice... But It Wasn't Him"

This happened about 6 months ago, when I was staying with my parents for a few weeks after a breakup. Their house is older, kind of creaky, but never felt scary to me or anything. My younger brother still lives there—he’s 17 and pretty quiet, always gaming or sleeping. One night I couldn’t sleep and was just scrolling on my phone around 3AM. I had my bedroom door open just a bit, and I clearly heard footsteps in the hallway. I figured it was my brother going to the bathroom or grabbing a snack. A few minutes later, I hear this soft knock on my door. Before I could say anything, I hear him say, “Hey… are you awake?” I thought it was weird because he never talks to me like that—he’s kind of a “nod and grunt” type of teen—but I just said, “Yeah, what’s up?” There was a pause. No response. I got up, opened the door wider… and no one was there. The hallway was completely empty. It’s not a big house—there’s nowhere to go that quickly. I checked the bathroom and his room. He was asleep, headset on, snoring. I even asked him the next morning if he came to my room, and he swore he hadn’t gotten up at all during the night. What freaks me out most is the voice. It sounded exactly like him, but not quite right. Like it was trying to sound like him. The tone was weirdly flat. I keep thinking maybe it was a dream, but I was sitting up, phone in hand, wide awake. I haven’t heard it again since, but I now sleep with the door completely shut.
