In a time before time, Lucifer, the angel of light, fell from grace, wanting to be higher than God. This marked the beginning of humanity's ongoing struggle with sin. Pride was his sin—the root that led to his downfall. Proverbs 16:18 tells us that pride goes before destruction. It blinds us to our true selves, leading us away from humility and into darkness. Then comes envy, a poison that makes us desire others' blessings instead of cherishing our own. James 3:16 warns that where envy exists, conflict thrives. It erodes relationships and pushes us to act out against those we should support. Next is wrath, the unchecked anger that can unleash havoc. Galatians 5:20 reminds us how damaging wrath can be, corrupting our hearts and leading us to destructive choices. Sloth, the sin of apathy, is next, encouraging laziness in our responsibilities. Proverbs 19:15 states that sloth results in missed opportunities for growth. Greed lurks behind an insatiable desire for more. 1 Timothy 6:10 tells us that greed can lead to our downfall, as the pursuit of wealth often brings heartache. Lust, too, distorts love and intimacy into mere desire. Matthew 5:28 reinforces how lust can shatter true relationships, leaving nothing but emptiness. But acknowledging these sins allows us to seek forgiveness. We can choose a path of redemption, embodying love and compassion, molding a better world for ourselves and each other.
